Experience

Hello! My name is Heather Nicole and I have been a tutor for over six years with certifications from the College Reading and Learning Association, special training across the country, and authorship of multiple tutoring enrichment programs across Dutchess County. Deciding on a tutor can be a grueling process. There is a tremendous pressure to feel like you're making the right decision in your, or your child's, education so allow me to simplify this bio and give you the facts to make this decision easier. I hold two degrees, an Associates in Liberal Arts and Science, and a Bachelors of Biology and Mathematics. I received my Level 1 Tutoring Certificates from the College Reading and Learning Association and used my experience with students to study the different ways we as human beings learn and retain information. Once my study was complete I published this information and started training other tutors so we could make sure that our students were receiving the best help possible. I am a passionate, interdisciplinary, person who has been fortunate enough to work with and for those educators who want to see students thrive and it's a message that I have taken to heart. I have traveled across the country to give presentations at international conventions, I have published academic papers in both the United States and Europe and I genuinely enjoy working with students. There is nothing more satisfying than finding a new way to explain a challenging subject so that it makes sense, or help find a new way to study based on an individuals specific learning style to help change the course of their education. I have spent years honing this craft and would like to think I am constantly improving. I also have a unique set of circumstances that help me connect with students that are having a hard time focusing or retaining the complex information that can be present in an educational setting. I have worked with students who show signs of learning disability, or attention issues and have had sweeping success because of my own experiences with dyslexia. Learning is an art that can be taught, and I can help. I have had students who only wanted a single session and I have had students that became my regular appointments for the entire year but what makes tutoring effective is the passion, the knowledge, and the experience to help. I have tutored highly specific subjects such as the role of the Church in Medieval Europe to Mathematics, Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, English and more. I genuinely enjoy working with students, even those who are hesitant or experiencing difficulty, because education is the gateway to their future and every student deserves that opportunity to find out what they love. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns, and if you did not see the subject you would like tutored listed in my page let me know. I would be completely comfortable designing and individualizes lesson for you. Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day!

Hobbies

I love learning new things and my hobbies are fairly widespread. I play several instruments including the piano, the concert flute, and the guitar as well as more exotic choices like the ceramic ocarina and the kalimba. I am a passionate writer, I read constantly and I design digital artwork for other people. I was involved for many years in several varsity and town league sports such as softball, volleyball and tennis until a head injury removed me from the competitive scene. I love storytelling, music, even video games for their unique methods of effecting emotion in others. I run a book club and still participate in kickball with my friends at the local gym. During the summer I enjoy camping and kayaking. Ultimately, I am always open to a new experience and revel in the opportunity to learn something new. Be it a skill or a story.
